National Deepfake Deterrence, Prevention, and Response in K-12 Network

The National Deepfake Deterrence, Prevention, and Response in K-12 Network, an Opportunity Labs initiative, brings together senior state policy makers coming together to understand — from subject matter experts — comprehensive, evidence-based strategies to deter, prevent, and respond to the misuse of deepfake technology, particularly nonconsensual, sexually explicit images, in K-12.

Our objectives for this work are to build a network of state representatives–e.g., governor’s education policy advisors, state superintendents of education or equivalent, etc–to:

  • Discuss the design and implementation of comprehensive, evidence-based strategies to deter, prevent, and respond to the misuse of deepfake technology, particularly nonconsensual, sexually explicit images, in K-12,

  • Inform policy and practice on the national stage, and

  • Provide feedback to the U.S. Department of Education on pending guidance.

Readouts from webinars and conversations featuring subject matter experts on the evolving legal landscape related to sexual deepfakes and approaches states should consider can be found below and will be updated regularly.
